MIA and Love Dare Day 7 & 8

If you are looking for the love dares Scroll down IN this post for the Love Dares 7 & 8

********************************

I have been having a minor meltdown-when it comes to vacations I am a planner, searching for the best deal on hotels and things to do on the cheap, keeping 3 beans happy etc...

This summer we are flying(gulp) all 7 of us(yes, I know you say, BUT Georgie you are only a family of 5-I will get to that) so we are flying into Phoenix, renting a car and driving to Sierra Vista to see my Great Uncle Tex-we are buying his Ford Expedition. Then we will leave his house and drive to the Grand Canyon, on to Four Corners, Mesa Verde, Durango, Pagosa Springs then down into Taos and provided I haven't murdered anyone along the way back in to Oklahoma.

We are taking a road trip and while I love the aspect of giving the Griswald family a run for their money, I do not find excitement in staying in a different hotel every night-I like to get where I am going, semi unpack and have the cabana boy bring me drinks with little umbrellas in them while sunning my thunder thighs. You really can't plan when you aren't sure where you will be on any given day *sigh* I can do this I can do this(my mantra) Oh and to make matters even more appealing The friggin Brady Bunch is on RIGHT NOW and guess where they are headed? YEP The Grand Canyon...

We were also looking forward to having a larger car for traveling with 2 teens and a tween the Ford has 3 rows so there would be extra space-ya know how car travel is with beans right? Notice I said were and would, I am getting to that, just trying to convince myself this is really happening...

Last week Ena(that's my Grandma) kinda, sorta invited herself on this family vacation-which is fine, shes quiet and easy going, then Thursday night I get a call from my daddy...wanting to know why 'he didn't get his invite to go on this trip as well' and the next thing I know we have another passenger. Now I know some of you are saying awwwww Georgie how fun, your gonna have the time of your life blah blah blah, again I chant, I can do this, I can do this....Travel with daddy is NOT like traveling with your daddy I promise...

Daddy, while he is easy going, he isn't quiet and he called me 5 times yesterday, 5 TIMES, he has all these things he wants to do while on OUR summer vacation, like go on a 5 hour trail ride(none of us ride-I am terrified of horses due to the fact that as a bean my daddy would put us on unbroke horses and say HANG ON!), a couple of not so off the beaten path side trips-more like 200 miles in the wrong direction of our best laid plan of travel I mentioned way back up there...see minor meltdown...that's my Ena and Daddy and how do you say "I am sorry but you can't come with us?" I know you open and mouth and say the words and I tried that...no words came out...

Let me just say I am glad to be able to spend this time with Ena and Daddy BUT 10 days straight on a very long car trip-kinda scares me! I am sure it sounds like I am complaining, I choose to use the word VENT...Daddy doesn't look at this as him coming along with us and that he invited himself, he looks at it like an opportunity to go and see things he wants to see and since he likes those things so should everyone else...I can do this I can do this...The Faloozie(My sister) said we should limit him to one or two side trips and they can only be so many miles in the wrong direction-I am taking her advice.

So about the only thing I can plan is how much duct tape, rope and bungee cords I am gonna need-cuz that luggage rack may be getting a workout...I kid I kid...it will be an adventure of a lifetime that much I am certain and in the end I know I will be glad to have had this time with both Ena and Daddy...

Love Dare-Day 7 Love believes the best

[Love] believe all things, hopes all things. --1 Corinthians 13:7

Dare:

Get two sheets of paper. On the first, write out positive things about your spouse. Then do the same with negative things on the second. Place both sheets in a secret place. At some point during the remainder of the day, pick a positive attribute from the first list and thank your spouse for having this characteristic.

Questions to ponder:

Which list was easier to make? What did this reveal about your thoughts?

****************************

Love Dare Day 8- Love is not Jealous

Love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. It burns like blazing fire. --Song of Solomon 8:6 NIV

The Dare:

Determine to become your spouse's biggest fan and to reject any thoughts of jealousy. To help you set your heart on your spouse and focus on their achievements, Take yesterday's list of negative attributes and discreetly burn it. Then share with your spouse how glad you are about a success he or she recently enjoyed.

Questions to ponder:

How hard was it to destroy the list? What are some positive experiences that you can celebrate in the life of your spouse? How can you encourage them towards future successes?

My confession for today: When I stress I get a fever blister...Guess what popped up over night! Oh and guess who is on his way to my house? Yep daddy, he wants to look at some trail riding places online...

You're right, you CAN do this, you just keep right on telling yourself that Georgie... lol Sorry to hear your vacation is turning out to be a lot more busy than you were already stressed about, but you're right, in the end you will be glad to have had the time with them, and lots of great stories for all of us!! by the way, my very own Mama lives in Durango! If you're down on Main St. and pass by the Land and Title Co. stop in and say hi!! Just ask for Tiffany's mama, they'll know who you're talking about... lol
Georgie, shoot me your email (if ya trust me) I want to send you somethin' for your trip.
I'm on day 7's dare, thought it was going to be a lot easier to make a negative list, cus lots of stuff bugs me about hime, but would you believe my positive list is longer? Who woulda thunk it...

  6. You must have a DVD player in the car!!!
Rent movies from Library or borrow from friends!
Good luck and consider it an adventure...someday you will (I promise) treasure this time you had with them!
I am loving the Love Dare!

  7. Good luck with that. I usually can only last about 4 days with my parents or my in-laws, and leave vowing to not spend so much time next time.

    ReplyDelete
  8. WOW, I can feel the stress already! Good luck with it all..... seriously, and if things dont work, will they let you blog from Jail?

  9. I have a rule - NO vacations with extended family. It's ok to meet up somewhere for a few days, but that IS IT. No going there together. No expecting me to do things that me and my kiddos/husband don't want to do and don't have time to do. Tell your dad he is welcome to come along for the ride and that you have the trip under control so you hope he enjoys what you have on the agenda.

  10. you can do the trip.....it will end up being alot more fun than you can imagine right now!!!!! hang in there!!!!!!

and i am really loving the love dare!!!! i thought the annoying things would be easy to come up with.....not as easy as i thought!!!!!! that has to be a good thing....right?!!??!!??

  11. okay, the GOOD news is four corners, mesa verde and durango are awesome.

the bad news is you have to have a prescription from the dr. for valium.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Um......be sure to schedule some down time (maybe hiding in the closest or taking a solo hike) during this whirlwind trip. Yikes!

All the places you will be visiting are awesome. If you like Mexican food, eat at Gespacho. It's Southwestern Mexican and red and green chile sauces (it's not Tex-Mex) and it's wonderful.

  13. You can do this, you can do this! Just think of all the blogging fodder you will accumulate on this journey! I can't wait for the stories and pictures! Go, Georgie, go!

P.S. Don't forget the cheetos and margaritas!

    ReplyDelete
  14. I just kept picturing Chevy Chase through this whole post. Oh, how I love the Vacation movies. I hope yours is better than ALL of them! whew...good luck!

  15. Run now!! Never travel with old people!!

    Never ever!!

You'll have to read my "trippin'" archives.

    ReplyDelete
  16. You might need a vacation after your vacation!

    Pack sedatives!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I'm sure there will be plenty of rest stops to ditch them at... maybe? Just kidding. Hopefully everything turns out well, and you all have a wonderful vacation!

    ReplyDelete
  18. For your luggage rack??

Okay, I'm just throwing this out there - rocks, rope, and duct tape could be far more usuful on this trip if you used them as they are intended to be used. If anyone (including Daddy or one of the kids) gets outta hand hit 'em with the rock, tie 'em up with the rope, and tape their yaps with the duct tape.

    Maybe let Gramma slide though...

  19. Good luck with the vacation thing.

This truth or dare is pretty powerful! Taking a close look inside my jealous self!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I am so much like you when it comes to vacations! I'm a huge planner and I hate making stops along the way. I just wanna get to where I'm going so I can unpack and relax!!

I really hope your vacation turns out to be one you'll remember for a lifetime (because it was so fun, not because someone in your family was "accidentally" left behind at the rest stop..heehhee...as tempting as that might be!!)

BTW, we just got Fireproof from Netflix in the mail and I asked my husband to watch it with me and he rolled his eyes! ROLLED HIS EYES!! But he'll be watching it with me sometime this week...I promised to make him his favorite dinner of ribs and mashed potatoes and he promised to watch the movie with me. Give and take, give and take, right?

    ReplyDelete
  21. We are talking about taking a road trip this summer to Tenn. I am really nervous about taking the 5 of us. You definitly need a DVD player and maybe Nintendo DS also.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Oh my---you are clearly better people than me. No way in hell would I take my dad on a trip with me again--I have taken him a few times on 1600 mile trips and when it is just us, it is okay--but any more people added in, it is a living hell.

    Gracious, you are brave!

    ReplyDelete
  23. "as a bean my daddy would put us on unbroke horses and say HANG ON!"

Is it wrong that I laughed at that? Lordie I hope not, cause it was a good belly laugh. I needed that.

Your a braver woman than I would ever be. I'm doing a road trip with 3 beans in April, but I would slit my wrists if my mom was coming. The 3 kids are enough.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Oh my....sounds like a vacation you'll need a vacation from....

    ReplyDelete
  25. Georgie! LOL! I am laughing WITH YOU...and I am also laughing maniacly as I've just recently driven 2500 miles in Italy with a cast of characters you wouldn't believe. It is only through the grace of God and the kindness my husband displayed that I am able to laugh today...and I'm not medicated!

YOU CAN DO THIS and it WILL BE GREAT!

    ReplyDelete
  26. BTW, Georgie...I tagged you on my blog! Go check it out!

    ReplyDelete
  27. WOW...you really ARE gonna sorta be like the Griswolds...do you plan to take in Wally World, too?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Xanax. You'll be fine.

  29. hello...stop by my blog...i have a liitle award for you!!!!!
thanks for being my new blog buddy.....you make me laugh...and i love the love dare!!!!!!

  30. Maybe you should plan on riding on the luggage rack. It will be fun. For us. Look up Amy in the first town come to from Colo. to Tx.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Awww, you're doing the reverse of what we did on our honeymoon - whitewater rafting in Buena Vista, Durango, Mesa Verde, the Grand Canyon. So fun. You WILL have a great time. Even with a few extra passengers.

    ReplyDelete
  32. You can't do this. You can't do this. My god girl! There would only be six on this vacation because I would stay home!! You have to, have to, have to open your mouth and insert your foot NOW by saying: "There is no way in HELL we can do this, THIS year". Life is short, but in the Truckster, it is going to seem like FOREVER and you don't deserve that much misery. Teenagers on a trip? No way. Ena and dad on a trip? No way. ALL THE ABOVE? Do not expect one moment of peace or joy. just sayin'

    ReplyDelete
  33. Another one here who got a good giggle out of "I am terrified of horses due to the fact that as a bean my daddy would put us on unbroke horses and say HANG ON!" LOL Too funny!

I think I got a couple gray hairs just reading about your upcoming "vacation". Can you even call it that now? LOL

    ReplyDelete
  34. you are prob taking a much needed break... but just checking on you just the same. HOPE all is ok, and your daddy is ok....

  40. Hello? Is this thing on???

    Is all okay in Georgieland?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Well poo, if I had seen this earlier, you are almost in my neck of the woods...I'm on the Western Slope of Colorado. I would have brought you some crazy pills or a horse or something.

    ReplyDelete
  42. We live near the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Are you going to the North or South Rim. My dad lives close to the South Rim and my brother is just out side the entrance on the south side. He works in Flagstaff. My daughter worked at Jacob's Lake just outside of the North Rim one summer. I don't remember which side has the new glass thing that you can walk out over the canyon and look through the glass. In the town before here, my husband's Highway Patrol area covered 4 Corners. You should have a fun trip. If you happen to end up in a town called Cameron on the Navajo reservation, they have the best Navajo Taco's EVER. I did my Christmas shopping on our way home from OK to UT on the reservation at the jewlery stands last summer. They are veering off into jewelry you can buy anywhere now, but sometimes you can find a place that does the real jewelry that isn't just glass beads. With a granddaughter coming, I want to go to the "Strip" (area from Page, AZ to Cameron, AZ) and get a turquoise baby bracelet. I'm picky with what I want. Brie had one and Mikele had 2 when they were babies. I still have them. I've not decided if I want to pass them down. They may loose them!!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I didn't read everyone's comments so maybe someone already said it... buy yourself a plane ticket home but don't tell them until you get there. RUN!
Hah. I've done that drive a few times as a kid. Very memorable and very fun. Even had to go with 6 in a van. My grandparents made my mom miserable every mile of the way.
I know what you mean about losing the reins on the planning. We go to Colorado with Doc's family every year. He SAYS I get to pick, but it's all subject to group approval (e.g. his mom). I'm not complaining about her, I just want my own vacation with my own rules!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I'm going to have to get all caught up on this Love Dares thing now that I have removed myself from exile! Thanks for checking up on my Georgie, it was sweet!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Ok Georgie.... just checking on you again. I hope all is ok. Just thinking about you

    ReplyDelete
  46. That sound like fun. Love your love challenge too.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Just one of your lurkers checking in to shower you with bloggy love... Hope all is well and you are just free of internet bondage. I mean maybe your nets is broken. Yanno?

    ReplyDelete
  48. Hoping you're on Vacation or Spring Break.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Go ahead and book a connecting flight out of Pheonix to Mexico - for one.

They can't stop you once the flight has left the gate.

And I'm completely selfish in the fact that I CANNOT wait to read the stories!!

    Good luck. Pack booze. Lots.

    ReplyDelete
  50. P.S. how do you discreetly burn something?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Where are ya girl?!? Miss ya!

    ReplyDelete
  52. This holiday doesn't sound like a holiday to me at all. Sounds like you'll need a holiday wen you get back. Why don't you secretly book yourself one, cabana boy, umbrellas and all...?
