Laura Ingells I am not...

We live in Oklahoma and if you have been watching National weather reports then you are probably aware that we are in the path of an ice storm.

A few years ago we barely survived an ice storm that left us cold and in the dark for days. We weren't prepared for loosing power, no firewood,no water bottles,no manual can opener,no water in the tub to flush toilets, no internet, ONE flashlight, no battery operated tv...

We, which actually means Eric had to cut wood from our backyard as tree limbs broke and fell, we lived in our den around the fireplace, playing charades during the day time and telling stories at night to the kids, it was fun in a Laura Ingells kinda way...for ONE day, after that I was so over the no power and now I know I could never have made it 'way back then' yanno when there were outhouses and horse and buggy's and and and...

Ask me if I am prepared for this storm...go ahead I'll wait...

Sorta kinda...we have wood ready to go, we have non-perishable food-including water bottles, all my laundry is caught up-cuz you gotta have clean undies and the dishes are done. I even found our old landline corded phone...I hope it is all for 'naught...

If we loose power I will not be able to check in and announce/contact the winners of the SeeHere contest on Friday-

I will leave you with some photos of our last debilitating ice storm *shivers*

My confession for today: brrrrr it's cold outside

  1. I just got back from camping. It was about 40 degrees at night, but there was a crosswind from the lake.

    I WAS COLD.

    I know, I'm a Texan. It's painful, but true.

  2. I hope your power stays on! We lost power from a big wind storm from Ike. We were ok with water and food, but it was really weird. We just sat around looking at each other. It felt like being in limbo.

  7. oh girl! I FEEL your pain!!! I liked in BA during the last ice storm - now I'm out a little further east - but will still get the effects of it, I'm sure (since I'm only 30 miles east!) And I feel SOOO bad for the Amish people who live just a couple miles down the road from me!? How do they do it on a DAILY basis?

  10. I'm wishing it would snow here! Lol... I'm from Louisiana (now live in NC) and it hardly ever snows there so when it snows here in NC I'm outside like an idiot yelling "It's snowing, it's snowing!!" Lol...

  13. Most of our family is in TULSA and I have my fingers crossed that the ice doesn't do it's "thang", but like you, I think they are prepared. Brrrrr. My Mom was 79 when the last ice storm hit and she spent an entire week w/o elec. and all alone. She refused to go be with family who had elec., so I worry about her. Good luck!!

  18. We already lost power for about 3 hours today. Fortunately, it is back on and dh now has the generator gased and ready! A few limbs are falling, but the ground temp is okay. Hoping everyone gets home safely this evening before the roads freeze.

    Are we having fun yet?

from the polar apocalypse....in east central Oklahoma....is this what global warming means?

  21. You all had it bad. We don't have any trees in our yard. That was frustrating when we moved in three years ago, but I appreciate it now.

I'll call you if I run out of water. :)

  32. I lived down there 20 years ago and it was the same damn thing. I still remember Having to catch water melting off the roof to flush the toilet...irritating!

  33. Hope all's well in your neck of the woods.

Ice storms are the worst. Even here in Ottawa, ice storms bring the city to a halt, with thousands without power, etc. Scary stuff, Mother Nature is.

  34. Holy cow! That's crazy and so far from anything we would ever experience here. Stay safe.
