Random Tuesday

I am not feeling well, I have the chills and an itchy-scratchy throat, my stomach feels like I just ate another can of progresso's HIGH FIBER soup...which I didn't(and a lil FYI/PSA don't eat that soup unless, unless well your constipated) but don't tell the toilet paper companies that because I am pretty sure those two companies are in bed or the 'can' together...(I am giving a whole new meaning to word 'clense') just sayin...

So today is a whole bunch of random...brought to you by the unmom

A month ago we spent close to $2000 fixing up my '96 mercury for Abby who said she would rather walk than drive the car, we laughed and said okay, I knew she would be singing a whole new tune when she actually started driving and she did...we showed her how to gas up the car, made sure she knew the rules, no cell phone or texting while driving, only ONE friend in your car etc...

The one thing we neglected to go over 'When lights come on, on the dashboard'. In our defense we just paid a lot of money to have the car repaired we really didn't expect any issues however last week she had been driving around with a red break light on the dashboard and she didn't tell us. It wasn't until Friday that she wanted Eric to show her one more time how to put gas in the car that she mentioned the red break light...

When I asked her, didn't she see the light on? she innocently replied, DUH mom, it means I need new breaks...she blew out something on the rear breaks by driving around with her PARKING BREAK ON and the front breaks would need replacing soon so another $500 spent on a car that is probably only worth maybe $1500 because it has very low miles and has only had 2 owners...I am thinking that one of her electives next year will be car mechanics at the vo-tech...

Sunday was my 13th Wedding Anniversary, yes valentines day and YES I know it is so cliche'... Eric got me a card, chocolates and cash...the envelope that the cash was in said... Go buy yourself some clothes...LIKE A MINI SKIRT! I laughed and laughed then handed him his anniversary gift...the movie, The Hangover...as a reminder of why it's good to be married...

Speaking of anniversaries our Eureka Springs trip has been delayed 2 weeks due to our childrens social functions...at least we still get to go...

I won a contest over at So Wonderful So Marvelous
the coolest 80s book titled Just can't get enough, toys, games and other stuff from the 80s that rocked...
It has brought back a ton of memories not to mention Jess has taken the book over, because in an effort apparently to relive the 80s via gift giving she has many of the toys listed in the book...the look of shock and horror that I was once a kid myself on her face has been priceless...she can't grasp the fact that I played with some of the same toys, Rainbow Bright, Care Bears, Trapper Keepers and sniff stickers, light brites and the game of MASH, she thought Judy Blume was a new book series...She-ra, Strawberry Shortcake and a pogo ball...AHHHHH Thank You Michele we so ♥ the book!

Last night someone in my lil part of the 'hood' had a lil too much fun on Presidents Day, they took out 7 mailboxes, 3 shrubs and a couple garbage cans, when I saw the first mailbox I was like oh wow they won't be getting their mail today then I saw the next mailbox and streaks in the concrete where something metal had obviously been dragged then I looked down the street and saw all the destruction...I have got to learn to sleep without my box fan...I MISS all the excitement! *disclaimer* I am glad no one was hurt but am a little disappointed I bet there were a TON of cops here last night and maybe even some hawt firemen then there is the small fact that I will still be receiving MY bills today...

Winter formal is right around the corner, so even though I felt like 'poo' I sucked it up and went dress shopping with Abby. I pride myself on being a thrifty shopper and that I have passed this trait on to at least one of my childrens...so we headed to 12 of 12 as Jess calls the store the real name is NBC aka Name Brand Clothing and we scored... the first dress retails for $225 we got it for $24.50 the second dress(navy pleats) retails for $119 we got it for $12...usually the dresses are samples or have a minor flaw, typically simple fixes, like a strap needs sewn back on but the biggest thing is they are typically one-of-a-kind meaning no one else will be showing up at formal with the same dress because OH THE HORROR if that happened...

  3. My olympic crush is still Bode Miller. Sigh, my Bode. Now when he has to finally grow up and stop snowboarding, his name is going to sound ridiculous, but for now. Sigh, Bode.

  4. Ahhhhh, the eighties...
I don't have an Olympic crush because I haven't been able to watch the Olympics since the first night when they kept showing the guy crashing and dying over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over.

  5. I love the parking break story! I never use mine because I'm afraid of it. But I did have a car without a working gas gauge. I ran out of gas three times while driving around town and my parents thought it was just me. No, it was the car (o:

NBC is where we got the prom dresses to go cliff diving in! What an amazing/overwhelming/eclectic store. It kind of made me want to wear prom dresses every day.

  7. Ah Georgie, sorry you aren't feeling well. It is because of the snow, ya know! I've blame everything else on all the white stuff we have rec'd, so I am just adding this to the list.

I actually think auto mech. is a great idea. Growing up (yep, they had cars back then), my dad owned a cab company. My sister and I not only knew how to change a tire, but we were pretty good at breaking one down and repairing a flat. We also learned how to put new break shoes on and a number of other helpful things. Hey and guys were impressed.

Speaking of guys noticing things....your daughter looks beautiful in the two dresses!

    Feel better soon!

  15. Sorry to hear you're under the weather. I hope you are better soon.

LOVE the dresses, #1 would get my vote because it's just different from all of the LBDs (Little Black Dresses).

My Olympic crush is Bode Miller, but mostly because I haven't been able to watch much of the Olympics yet. Still, I'd probably have to say Bode.

Seeing your daughter is those dresses is what made you realize they're growing up. She looks fabulous! How old is she again? Wow! I hope I can look like that someday...

You make me feel old. My kids played with those toys--I was the one doing the buying.

  28. No Olympic crush - but Bode Miller could be if they'd put him onscreen for more than 30 seconds.

    Love the dresses - beautiful.

And I can relate to the light on the dash - duh! - moment. I drove to school for a week with the car overheating, but didn't say anything because I thought it was just steam, not smoke. Yea, my stepdad was NOT impressed.

  34. I am so happy the book went to a good home. I loved it.

And the Abby story has been cracking me up all week. Every time I think about it, I remember when I was driving my mom's car and slid into a curb on a rainy day. I knocked the alignment out and completely forgot to tell my mom until she was driving the car and asked me what the hell happened. Ahhhhh good times.

  35. ok, I just looked in , and listen, I am NOT a mean sort, I am NOT here to slam you, but I have to say: spell check, please.
It's just that your blog has something quite homey and sweet, but when you say (parking) 'break', instead of 'brake', I get all..teacher-itchy. My apologies, I swear to GoD I don't mean this comment bitchy. I WILL look in again.
