Where was I? Ah yes Cortez, we made it to a Days Inn-I gotta tell ya the BEST nights sleep EVER! They have these thick, feather bed-esque bed toppers that are DREAMY! and the rooms are over-sized and the sink isn't in the bathroom area,and,and-3 girls need I say more...
It is only 8 miles from cortez to mesa verde-in driving time that computes to 45mins and that's if you don't get behind an RV-we got behind an RV....
see the pic below this will be the first time Eric tried to murder me that day-see that tunnel(did I mention eric drives with his wrist? with his wrist on CURVY mountainous roads) well we hit that tunnel and brainiac didn't have on his lights and we are in a new car so as I freak out because it is very very dark he tries to find the lights-wind shield wipers check, water for wind shield wipers check, over drive button check...I am demanding he pull over and let me drive-he found a sock and some duct tape....
Here we are before desending into the unkown
walking down-these inclines are HARD on in growns stuffed into sneakers
we climbed lotsa these
To get to this
This was our fearless leader-I forget her name-but she was very knowledgeable
Thats a Kiva-the Puebloan Peoples were very advanced
Welcome to Cliff Palace-it really was amazing
I went ahead of my clan to help the elderly catch my breath and yes that ladder(there were 2 to climb out) was straight up
Next we ERIC decided to explore Spruce Treehouse-he assures me there won't be any scary ladders to climb-that it is a flat easy on the in growns to walk...PFFFFT I tell you-he lied-2nd attempt on my life that day
we encountered steep inclines, ivy of the itchy variety, and not enough water on this 1/2 mile jaunt-let me just stop and say I am not whining just merely stating that I am not 18 anymore...
Pics from Spruce Treehouse
My son...yiyiyi
We arrive in FAB town of Pagosa Springs-home to stinky yet wonderful mineral baths-the look on Reese's face is either the smell or he's gotta do a number 2
We soaked at The Overlook Spa-they had 2 roof top baths-our fav
The view from the roof
This is where the mineral water originates
and then there is Reese
While I waited on the fam to come down the San Juan river on their raft this lil guy or girl-it's so hard to tell these days kept me company
We spent 2 glorious days in Pagosa Springs-just chilaxin
Then it was off to Taos
We visited Kit Carson's Home-Eric is related to KC
Inside his 3 room home(considered a mansion of it's time)
Jess was mad at me for Lord knows what that day
We ate lunch at this awesome Restaurant called Antonio's and look Jess isn't mad at me anymore
We left Taos
a couple pics along the way
Eagles Nest Ski resort
Somewhere between Co and NM
and made it to Clayton new Mexico we found another Days Inn and Suites again another GREAT nights sleep!
We awoke to rain and Reeses' Birthday-I brought him breakfast in bed and we all sang Happy Birthday over his waffle-
Clayton is home to over 500 dinosaur tracks
The BDay Boy
Jess
We had 2 or 3 days left to play with but once you are about an hr away from the Oklahoma border whats one to do?
This I tell ya
Head for the Texas Border
and make your son who just turned 14 do this
to get one of the only normal pictures in 7 days
My confession for today: Windows update keeps wanting to install IE 8 and I am not sure about this change
I'm just gonna vacation through YOU this year. K?
ReplyDeletelove the pictures......looks like a great time!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love it. I'm glad you had a good time. I know what you mean about those ladders. I don't like them either. I can't remember if we went thru Cliff House. I think so.
ReplyDeleteI loved Pagosa Springs although we never found awesome Mexican food, just OK Mexican food. We did some nice hikes.
Taos is beautiful. Kit Carson, huh? Cool! Antonio's - good choice.
I'm glad you made it to Texas! Yee Haw!
Did you get a chance to enjoy the hot springs? The pictures are so nice. Good job with keeping up with even the expressions of the family's faces.
ReplyDeleteMy "staycation" here at home is looking mighty boring compared to all that you've been doing.
ReplyDeleteThese embedded comment boxes simply give my main computer fits! Why is that??
ReplyDeleteSay, I've been out of touch for several days. Trying to tweak my blog a little, remove some old stuff, start fresh. Even changed my name to ♥Boomer♥ from bfs-Mimi .. but I'm still the same person. :-)
Getting prepared to "go public" again after I take care of a few more things...but tonight I just had to catch up on a bit of reading and commenting.
Looks like you had a wonderful, wonderful vacation!
Well, you were ALMOST at Midland! Looks like you had a wonderful time.
ReplyDeleteI love Colorado and NM - at least the part of NM that has trees!
Windows sucks:~/ Y'all are sure on one Texas sized vacation! I use to pass the Big T on my runs out west. Never stopped, probably should have, but never really wanted to eat that much steak. I'll put an 18oz away easy, but 72oz's? That is just asking for God to smite me.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the vacation pics and stories!
ReplyDeleteListen, about your ingrown toenail - I used to do hair and nails and something that worked 3 out of 4 times for ingrowns was to put an overlay of acrylic on the toenail in question. (the acrylic they do sculptured nails with). Just find someone who has the clear powder and have them overlay the toenail. It usually helps!
Just discovered you were back to blogging regularly!! YAY
ReplyDeleteGreat vacation pics--I've been to Mesa Verde--such a beautiful area--the 4 corners region. I'm gonna go along with you now.
Have a safe trip!
Glad you survived the tunnel....your hubby is lucky also, nothing like P-ssssing off the wifey in a dark tunnel.
ReplyDeleteLoved the recap and the pics. Happy Birthday to Reese! I didn't know all those places were in that little area of the world.... =)
Yep this is the vacay I shoulda took but NOOOOO...that grumpy old man would let us stop!!!
ReplyDeleteOne day.
I'll take it.
Roy promised it to me.
You had a fabulous time. A trip the kids will never forget.
I absolutely love CO and NM! What fantastic photos! I am having my vacation vicariously through you this year...thanks for showing me such great time! lol!
ReplyDeleteMy parents went to Mesa Verde about 40 years ago, before I was born and I swear they have the exact same pictures!
ReplyDeleteTake me next time, please!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your vacation with us. We had almost the exact same one three years ago. Still my all time favorite vacation!
ReplyDeleteHello there,
ReplyDeleteI just discovered your blog today and it's great. About 15 years ago my parents took us on a very similar vacation except we drove from Portland, OR. I have always remembered learning about the cliff dwellers and it has fascinated me to this day. What a great trip. Thanks for the photos!
Cheers.
Holy cow! Okay, I'm just going to comment on the ruins--wow. That is really fascinating to me. Glad you got to go!
ReplyDeleteWell, now I know where I can't go. I'm scared of heights. Scared of caverns. Scared of water, and I need to sit down and take a nap just LOOKING at all that climbing. Pick me up on your way down.
ReplyDeleteYow! You guys are vacationing dynamoes!! Our vacation pictures are...oh, who am I kidding? I haven't been on vacation in 2 years, since Junior was born.
ReplyDeleteUnbelievable photos! I would love that.
ReplyDeleteAnd a thick bed - ahhhh.
Hi, Georgie!
ReplyDeleteI'm Michelle.... the one who was in Clayton and lives down the road from your grandmother. I finally found the card you gave me. Love your blog.
Waving at you! Nice photos!
Did you all make it home okay? We spent a glorious week in Colorado and came home exhausted. Now back to the grind.
I'm really enjoying this series! Listen, I wanted to introduce myself. I'm Aunt Julie, Veggie Mom's SIL. Veggie is retiring today as the proprietress at Eat Your Veggies! today, and I'm stepping in. I realize I have really BIG shoes to fill, but I'm up to the challenge. Please come by and wish Veggie a fond farewell on her last post. Look forward to seeing you over at my new place!
